The 2012 Marysville to Melbourne is presented by a unique charity organisation called The Difference who do some astounding work in support of the disadvantaged.
The research shows we are becoming less inclusive as a society — going backwards on indicators like child abuse and neglect, suicide, rates of reimprisonment, homelessness, public housing waiting lists and credit default. Clearly government alone cannot fix the problems — responsibility also lies with us – and that is where The Difference comes into it.
The Difference generates the much needed dollars to support on the ground programs for people in desperate need of our help including:
- The homeless
- Applicants on public housing waiting list
- Children subject to abuse and neglect
- Children living without an employed parent
- Those facing credit default and major household debt
- Long suffering drug users
- The long term unemployed
- Indigenous mortality rates
The Difference is a collaborative project lead by a dynamic board made up of business executives with Australian of the Year Simon McKeon as one of their key ambassadors (who will also be doing the 2012 M2M!). They are funded by a range of philanthropic, corporate and individual donors. BUT THEY STILL NEED OUR HELP to continue this superb work. Rapid Ascent will be donating $10 from every entry to The Difference to start the ball rolling but we hope to help them raise much more.
