Marysville
Marysville is a quant little village that’s nestled in the foothills of the scenic Yarra Ranges and Melbourne’s closest alpine resort - Lake Mountain. It’s a ninety minute drive from Melbourne and but feels like a world away when you get there with the bush all around, the picturesque river at the bottom of the main street and fresh air all around. It is certainly the ideal location for the start of a race like the Marysville to Melbourne Multisport Challenge (or any other food, wine and wilderness adventure).

Marysville was established in 1863 as a stopover for diggers on the way to nearby goldfields. In the 1920s, Marysville evolved into a popular honeymoon and resort town, with many guest houses offering a range of accommodation options. Since that time Marysville thrived as a tourist town.
More recently, the Black Saturday bushfires are have created another chapter of history in Marysville. Whilst most of the town was destroyed in the fires, there are still many businesses operating with plenty of construction and significant progress being made on rebuilding the township to its former glory.
Events like the Marysville to Melbourne Multisport Challenge are a significant part of this rebuilding progress as it will bring people back to the township, provide economic input and increased interest in the area once again. We strongly encourage all competitors and their supporters to visit Marysville on race weekend (and hopefully before and afterwards!) and show your support for a township that has been through such hard times.
Marysville Visitor Information
The Marysville Lake Mountain Visitor Information Centre was destroyed in the Black Saturday bushfires, however a new Visitor Information booth has since been opened in Marysville. The centre is staffed Friday to Monday between 9am and 5pm.
The centre provides information about the Triangle region including Marysville, Narbethong, Buxton, Taggerty, Lake Mountain and surrounds.
We recommend you contact them or visit their excellent website for further information about the region and the many things to do, places to stay and activities to enjoy.
